How Beffore works
Your tasks are the key to your screen time. Here's how the pieces fit.
Plan your tasks
Add tasks for a single day, or make them repeat on the days you choose.
Set your limits
Each limit controls how long you can use the apps you pick each day, from a few minutes to hours. Vary it by day of the week if you like, or give a day no time at all to keep its apps locked that day.
Tasks unlock screen time
Your limits start the day locked. Finish today's tasks to unlock their time.
Unlock mode
Each limit unlocks one of two ways: a slice per finished task (Progression), or everything at once when the last task of the day is done (Completion).
Each day starts fresh
Midnight resets everything. Days with nothing planned are free days: your apps are unlocked from the start, unless you gave that day no time at all.
Locks are not walls
When a limit runs out, its apps and websites lock, but there’s always a door: “Unlock for 5 min” on the block screen, or “Open until midnight” on the limit’s own screen. No questions, no guilt.
Screen time is an estimate
The way your iPhone shares Screen Time with apps isn't exact, so the minutes you see are an estimate and may differ from Screen Time in your iPhone's Settings.
Time on your other devices
If you also use an app on your iPad or Mac, that time can count toward its limit on your iPhone, even though only your iPhone locks it. To count only your iPhone, turn off Share Across Devices in Screen Time.
Checking and unchecking
Finished tasks land in Completed. You can uncheck one until the end of the day it's due, or the day you checked it if that's later. After that it's history, and only deleting can change it.
Missed a task?
It moves to Overdue as a reminder, nothing more. A missed task never locks your apps or your streak on the days that follow.
Streaks
Finish everything planned for a day and your streak grows. Leave a task unfinished at midnight and the streak starts over. Days with no tasks are rest days and never break the chain.
Private by design
Your tasks, apps and Screen Time data stay on your iPhone. No account, no server holding them. Beffore only sends anonymous usage stats and crash reports to help improve it, and checks your purchase online. You can turn the stats and reports off in More.
