Getting started
How does Beffore work?
Add today’s tasks. Choose the apps you want to limit and a daily amount of time for them. As you tick tasks off, that time unlocks — either bit by bit with each task, or all at once when the whole list is done. You choose which, per limit.
What if I have no tasks today?
Then the limit is open from the start, within its usual amount. An empty day is a free day, not a punishment.
Why does it need Screen Time permission?
Counting how long an app has been used, and shielding it when a limit is spent, is only possible through Apple’s Screen Time frameworks. Granting the permission is what makes the app work at all. You can withdraw it any time in iOS Settings under Screen Time.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no server — everything lives on your iPhone.
Limits and unlocking
An app is blocked and I need it now
The block screen has its own button that opens the app you tapped for five minutes, and you can tap it again when those run out. For the whole limit, open it in Beffore and use “Unlock until midnight” at the bottom of the screen. Locks are defaults, never walls.
My usage numbers look wrong
iOS reports screen time to apps as periodic estimates rather than a live count, so figures can lag or look coarse for a while. Beffore corrects itself against the authoritative totals the next time you open it.
I finished a task but nothing unlocked
Check the limit’s unlock mode. On Completion nothing unlocks until the last task is done; on Progression each task unlocks a slice. Also make sure the task is dated today — future tasks do not count toward today’s unlock.
My streak did not count
A day counts when every task planned for it was done by the end of that day — finishing ahead of time counts too. Days with no tasks are skipped rather than broken, so a holiday will not end a streak. Finishing a task late still checks it off and still earns today’s screen time, but the day it was planned for stays unfinished.
Subscription
How do I restore a purchase?
If you reinstall Beffore or move to a new iPhone, tap Restore purchase on the subscription screen. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it on.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal and the current period runs to its end.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue them ourselves, but tell us what went wrong and we will help.
Your data
Where is my data kept?
On your iPhone. There is no account and no server copy. The privacy policy has the detail.
Can I export it?
Yes — the More tab exports everything as a JSON file. Deleting the app removes its data from your device.
Still stuck?
Email marcel@beffore.app. It reaches the person who makes Beffore, and it is worth including your iPhone model and iOS version if something is behaving oddly.
